American Business Women’s Association Organizes Business Meeting on September 14th in Hyannis

The American Business Women's Association will hold its monthly Business Meeting on Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 at the Radisson Hotel Hyannis, Garden Room, Iyannough Road (Route 28), Hyannis. Networking will start at 5:30 pm with a buffet dinner at 6:15 pm.

During the meeting, you’ll become better acquainted with the new Board President Jane Bourette, Vice-President June Bertucci, Treasurer Laura Lincoln and Secretary Midge Rose. You will also hear about plans and budget for the year and get to know committee chairs, upcoming events and more...

Sheryl Baba, owner of Solstice Day Spa in Hyannis will be featured as the monthly Member Spotlight.

American Business Women’s Association Introduces New Executive Board at Annual Meeting

August 20th, 2010, Hyannis, MA- During its Annual Meeting, the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) introduced its new Executive Board for the 2010/2011 year.

ABWA President Jane Bourette of Dennis is Vice President of Drake, Saunders & Diwinsky, Ltd, and serves as an Investment Advisor Representative with JW Kodak Capital Management, LLC.   She is an accomplished, professional business woman with over 30 years in sales, marketing and customer service. Jane is especially focused on the growing needs of baby boomer women through ongoing workshops and her volunteer work at We Can Corporation helping women in transition. She is based in Chatham, MA with cliental from Cape Cod to California, thanks to technology and relationships.

Jane says: “As a retirement financial planner and IRA specialist, ABWA has been a vital part of growing my business as well as providing personal development, networking opportunities and lots of great friends.”


Vice President June Bertucci of West Hyannisport is President of Small Office Computer Support of Cape Cod. SOCS has been providing technology services to many cape business as well as home users. With a background of over 26 years working with technology there is rarely a computer issue June can’t resolve. Services including PC troubleshooting and maintenance, networking and backups as well as computer training. She also volunteers for several cape charities as well as having served on various ABWA committees.

June says: “ABWA is an amazing organization for professional woman on Cape Cod; we provide support, information and best all numerous scholarships for local woman looking to further their education and their lives. I’m very proud to be part of this organization.”

Treasurer Laura Lincoln of South Yarmouth, is the owner of Sound Bookkeeping Services, serving small businesses in the Mid Cape area. She is a Certified Bookkeeper through the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB) and an Advanced Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor through Intuit. Past board positions include co-secretary and Treasurer of her condominium association.

Laura says: “I look forward to each ABWA meeting. In the few months that I have been a member I have met a lot of wonderful women. Everyone brings something different to the group and it is wonderful to see everyone sharing their life experiences and knowledge with others in the group.”

Licensed Property & Casualty, Life & Health Agent.  Past positions held, Co- Chair, Hyannis, March of Dimes Walk America, Past Treasurer Cape Cod Human Resource Association (CCHRA) and Committee member Barnstable Senior Center. Midge says: “I enjoy ABWA every month. I have developed new friendships from this group of wonderful, inspirational women.  I encourage young women to join and become part of the leadership and direction you will experience from this group.”

Cape Cod Chapter American Business Women Presents Six $1,500 Scholarships   

August 30th, 2010, Yarmouth, MA - The Cape Cod Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) presented six scholarships to young women at its recent Scholarship Business Meeting in Hyannis.

Providing scholarships to support women is a major part of the mission of the American Business Women’s Association. Each scholarship is for $1,500 each. Funds are raised during the monthly business meetings and through various activities during the year.

This year's Scholarship Selection Committee consisted of Denise Dever of Sandwich, Wendy Mullin of Centerville and JoAnna Watson of Bass River.

Scholarship Chair JoAnna Watson said:" To me, this is the most exciting and rewarding part of being a member of the ABWA of Cape Cod. I get to support young women and their future. Even though we had a record number of six scholarships to award, the choice was not easy. I'm very pleased to know that all of this year's scholarship recipients are on the Dean's list."

The 2010 ABWA of Cape Cod Scholarships were presented to:

Alicia Jamous of Harwich. She is a rising senior who will be majoring in physical therapy at Simmons college in Boston. She was just accepted into the physical therapy school and will attain her PhD

Kristen Logan of Cotuit. She is a rising junior, majoring in government and economics at Harvard university in Boston. Kristen was finishing an internship in New York City and was not able to accept the scholarship in person, but her parents attended for her. 

Taylor Amara of Chatham is a rising junior at Johnson and Wales university in Rhode Island. She will be majoring in Food and Beverage Management.

Laura Kozma of Osterville is also a rising junior at UMASS-Amherst. She plans to major in Biology and Kinesiology and has been accepted in the Honors college.

Caitlin Littleton of Hyannis is a rising sophomore at UMASS-Amherst, with a pre-medical concentration. She has also been accepted in the Honors college.

Jessalyn Gingras of Harwich. She is a rising sophomore at Bryant university in Rhode Island who will be  majoring in International Business.

We have some money for this purpose and may be able to fund or partially fund this opportunity for you.  Members must be up to date with their dues in order to qualify.
