Serve on an ABWA Committee - It's Worth it!
Teri Whelan:
Working on the Nominating Committee was work, but it was also a lot of fun! I really enjoyed talking to the members about the Board opportunities and ABWA in general, and got to know a few of the members much more than I did before. I even learned a little history about ABWA. Despite the many commitments the women in our group have, they took the time to talk to me or call me back to follow up. I was very impressed about this level of caring! I guess that's what makes us special!
Aurora Rodrigo and Yvonne Hawes:
Working for the Scholarship Committee as co-chairs has allowed us to be part of our community as well as to help women fulfill their goals and aspirations.
It has also opened our eyes to how dedicated, resourceful and involved the women are at all levels and ages.
Even though we had a good idea of what women were capable of here on Cape Cod and the Islands, through ABWA we have been able to not only confirm this but it has even surpassed our expectations.
It has been an honor and a privilege to meet the women that have won ABWA’s scholarships.
Participation in this committee has given us enormous satisfaction.
Paula Hersey:
Through the 4+ years I have been an ABWA member I have been on several committees, and each one was a learning and growing experience. Special committees like the Business Associate's Award provided the opportunity to meet new people, nominees and judges, as well as learning more about what my fellow members find important to their success in their lives and careers.
The Programs committee brought new networking contacts as well as satisfaction in bringing stimulating, informative speakers to our monthly meetings. Contacting potential speakers for ABWA also rewarded me with confidence in dealing with some folks I might have felt intimidated by and not approached otherwise. I now enjoy going to those Chamber meetings...as I know several people in the room!
Lastly I am currently serving on the Newsletter committee, and love it! I and my Co-chair this year (Jane Nichols Bishop) were constantly under deadline, but managed to produce an informative and visually appealing newsletter for all our current and potential members. This year we finally broke through the cyber-barrier and are producing the newsletter online, which allows our members to forward the newsletter to all their friends and associates who might be interested in joining ABWA!
"A special thanks goes out to Paula Hersey, for her fast and excellent work with the Chapter website. Check out our new updates on www.abwacapecod.org."
